Elizabeth 'Mamu' Aldor, circa 1930. My grandmother, the fearless and forever entertaining woman who taught me how to make things.
Studio MAMU is a series of handmade ceramics by Courtney Aldor. I live and work in NYC and Northern California and I'm inspired by the ever-changing landscape in each area. The textures of the environment - both built and natural - have always fascinated me and I strive to bring out the natural composition of the clay and glazes I use in my work. I aim to make delicate, fragile looking forms that are deceivingly tough. I create objects to honor my grandmother, Elizabeth 'Mamu' Aldor, who taught me how to make things.
